Here's why a ban on file sharing will not work. Young people's popular beat combo, the "Nine Inch Nails" have made volume 1 of their new album freely available right now for download via Bit Torrent. It follows fairly close on the heels of the almost free Radiohead album In Rainbows where fans got to pay what they liked for the download on its initial release.

The really interesting thing about this aside from the retro kitsch is that they fitted 74 mins of music into 1.4Mb (and at various bit rates) that's a remarkable compression ratio compared to mp3 is it not?
